KET stands for "Key English Test". KET is a test that evaluates your ability to handle everyday spoken and written English at a basic level. If you're considering taking the KET exam, you'll want to make sure that you already have basic spoken and written English skills, can understand written English, and can use the English language to communicate effectively in everyday situations. If you have already achieved that skill level, then the KET Exam is probably right for you.
The KET exam is a test provided by Cambridge, and there are many reasons why you may want to prepare yourself for and pass the KET exam. Upon completion of the KET exam, you receive a certificate of completion that is valid for your whole life. This certificate is recognized world wide for business, academic, and social purposes. A KET certificate shows potential employers all over the world that you understand and can effectively communicate using the English language.
A KET certificate also paves the way to more difficult tests, such as the Preliminary English Test and the First Certificate In English (PET and FCE).
The exam consists of three parts.
- Basic Reading And Writing:
This section of the exam lasts for 70 minutes. You will be expected to read simple English on written paper. You will need to be able to fill in missing pieces to sentences, as well as write a few short paragraphs using written English.
The listening exam lasts ½ hour, and you will need to demonstrate the ability to comprehend basic English as it is spoken to you.
The speaking exam only lasts about 10 minutes. It's designed to test your ability to communicate on a basic level using spoken English.
